Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2025
Hive Home ("we", "our", or "us") is a family management app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it. By using Hive Home, you agree to this policy.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly when creating an account and using the app:
- Account information: your name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash)
- Profile photo: optionally uploaded to personalize your account
- Household data: tasks, chores, routines, calendar events, and notes you create within the app
- Household membership: names, roles (adult or child), and settings for members you add to your household
- Usage data: completion timestamps, streak counts, and points earned within the app
Google Calendar Integration
If you choose to connect Google Calendar, we request access to read and write calendar events on your behalf. We store encrypted OAuth tokens (access token and refresh token) to maintain this connection without requiring you to sign in repeatedly.
- Calendar tokens are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM before being stored in our database
- We only access the specific calendars you select in the app
- Calendar data is never sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising
- You can disconnect Google Calendar at any time from your account settings, which revokes our access immediately
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the Hive Home service:
- To display your household's tasks, chores, routines, and calendar in the app
- To sync events with connected Google Calendar accounts
- To calculate and display points, levels, and streaks
- To send push notifications about tasks and reminders (only if you enable them)
- To respond to your support requests
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or share your personal information with third parties.
Children's Privacy
Hive Home is designed for household use including children. Child accounts within a household are created and managed by a parent or adult administrator. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you are a parent and believe your child has provided information without your consent, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
How We Store Your Data
- Account and household data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Railway
- Profile photos and uploaded images are stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage
- Google OAuth tokens are encrypted before storage and never stored in plain text
- Data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS at all times
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Disconnect any third-party integrations (such as Google Calendar) at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.
Third-Party Services
Hive Home uses the following third-party services to operate:

- Cloudflare R2 — image and file storage
- Google OAuth — optional calendar integration
- Expo / Apple / Google — push notification delivery
Each of these services has their own privacy policies governing how they handle data.
